The only criticism's I could really throw at it are the fact that its four issues and out, seemingly. Far from a dedicated retiree coming back for “one last job for queen and country,” Roland King has realized that the system he has upheld hasn’t just betrayed him, it has betrayed everyone.

King of Spies is the John Wick and Logan movies rolled into one giant inflammable ball of nitrous-fueled comic book that entertains with gratuitous violence and boisterous gun brawl. The artwork of Matteo Scalera and Giovanna Niro is one of the foremost reasons for the book's cinematic impression, where even the most brutal moments have an artistic fervor to them.

There are some really ALMOST moments where you could see it could have had an effective emotional hit but it zips by in such a hurry that there's little to stick. And you know what, I could care less about Bond's spiraling demise, because King of Spies is everything a Bond movie should've been, and then some. King was a distinguished MI6 operative, and when he retired from the service he maintained close ties to the organization, and even made himself rich. Given his limited time on Earth, King has set his sights on taking down as many of the planet's corrupt “presidents and kings” as possible.After boarding a plane carrying the real-life Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega, he quickly dispatches the authoritarian leader before flying off with a beautiful woman to make love. Bloody and brutal and far more grounded, and with some of the most lavishing and evocative art you will ever see in a comic book, this is how you do it.
