Hi everyone! In this review, we will analyze the specs and features of the Creality Ender 5 Pro, a budget FDM 3D printer kit produced by China-based Creality 3D. Well-known for both the CR and Ender 3D printer series, Creality is one of the most popular and discussed 3D printer manufacturers. Since the launch of their first Ender 3D printer, the Creality Ender 3, the company has achieved remarkable success in the low-price personal 3D printers market segment. That’s why they kept adding new models to the Ender lineup, namely the Ender 3 Pro, the Ender 4, and the Ender 5 series, which includes the 5, 5 Plus, and 5 Pro 3D printers. For example, if you are planning to print with flexible or soft filaments you might want to swap to a direct-drive filament extrusion system. Also, you might want to install an automatic bed leveling sensor or a filament run-out detection system to streamline your 3D printing experience. The Ender 3 V2 ships with a tempered carborundum glass bed, while the Ender 5 Pro has a classic magnetic build plate.
The Ender 3 Max can be upgraded with auto leveling, but the process is a bit more difficult than other printers such as the CR-10 V2. The Ender 3 max also has 50mm less of vertical build volume than CR-10 series printers, but we have found that most parts do not require this extra height in our experience.
On the bottom front of the machine, the USB and TF Card slots let you comfortably connect the device to an external computer as well as independently operate it via a TF card. The printer settings and the printing status can be controlled via a 45°-tilted LCD screen. When the printer boots you may see the TH3D logo on your LCD, printers with low-end CPUs may not show a TH3D logo but all will show a Marlin screen with TH3D Studio showing on the version information. The Creality Ender-5 Pro has a large build area considering its low price. As a kit, it takes a fairly easy few hours to assemble. Its print quality tops that of many 3D printers in its price range. Its main flaw is that, as with many printers limited to manual bed-leveling, getting and keeping the print bed properly calibrated can be a headache.
Both the Ender 3 V2 and Ender 5 Pro have Creality’s silent V.4.2.2 mainboards charged with the heavy lifting under the hood. As for firmware versions, the Ender 3 V2 has Marlin 2.0 pre-installed, while the Ender 5 Pro comes with Marlin 1.8.
An Open-Frame Kit
If you are printing objects that are primarily for decorative purposes, you can print with an infill of 5-10%. Originally I wanted something smaller, like the Ender 3. I went for Ender 5 because of the frame structure and because the bed is only moved down while printing and the head does all the movement necessary for printing.
